Jill Greenberg: Like taking candy from a baby
Jill Greenberg: Like taking candy from a baby
Jill Greenberg may be one of the most talented portrait photographers of our day and age. Born in Canada and raised in Detroit, the RisD graduate's unique "shiny face" portrait style has been showcased all over the world and has been critically acclaimed in several different languages. Her photographs have been on the cover of several publications including Time Magazine, Radar, and Entertainment Weekly. She has worked with countless celebrities including Gwen Stefani, Jamie Lee Curtis, and former Republican presidential candidate, John McCain. Greenberg's subjects in her fine art portraits are, however, probably the most eye-catching and enthralling models I've seen in contemporary photography.
While Greenberg has worked with both primates and bears as portrait models, her most controversial work has to be "End Times," where toddlers were photographed throwing fits and crying. These photographs, though criticized by some who thought Greenberg used force to make the children cry (she really just handed them a toy or some candy and quickly took it away from them), are some of the most powerful and captivating images I've seen.
Jill Greenberg is a female force to be reckoned with. You can be sure you will be seeing a lot more of her work in the future.
